ENSURE OUR FUTURE BY SAVING OUR PAST
GREETINGS FROM THE HISTORIC STORE AT FIVE CORNERS!
As many of you have seen, the store is buzzing with activity as we make repairs and preparations to have the store up and running as soon as possible. Our hope is to have everything operational by the first week of June.
Starting next week you can follow our progress via updates on our Facebook page. Please be sure to “like” us and check back often for updates. We will also be making changes to and updating our website over the next several weeks. While we are making changes and updates with regard to technology and data, it is very important to us that the essence of the store remain the same. We believe that a small, local store is an integral part of the fabric which binds a community together. It is our wish that when locals and visitors alike enter our doors they find a friendly face and quality products that meet their needs. To that end, we will be carrying a full complement of deli and dairy products, coffee and breakfast pastries, assorted beverages, sundry items, gift and specialty items and a small hardware section. Additionally, we intend to offer a lunch menu and eventually, items for dinner or picnic take out. We have applied for and are awaiting approval of a wine and malt license. Once that is approved, we will be able to offer wine and beer for sale. We have many other ideas and ways we hope to meet the needs of the community. Due to the fact that this is a family run business, we will be phasing in our ideas over the next year as time and finances allow.
My family and I are excited to have the opportunity to bring this cornerstone of the community back to life. Please feel free to let us know your thoughts and feelings about how we’re doing, as well as products you wish to see available. While we can’t carry everything for everybody, we’ll do the best we can. Please keep your eye out for the ‘Open’ sign. Once you see it, be sure to stop on by and say “Hello”. We promise you’ll find a friendly face and a family that wants to meet you.
RYAN HASSETT AND THE HASSETT FAMILY
Little Red’s location in the South Williamstown Historical District adds importantly both to our sense of community and history. It was first planned in 1860 in order to accommodate increased enrollment in the South Central Public School directly across the street on Route 7. However, the Civil War delayed actual construction until 1868. It quickly became known as “The Little Red Schoolhouse” serving as a one-room public school until the middle of the twentieth century, when it was converted to a private nursery school in 1964. The building is also a neighborhood meeting center and houses the South Williamstown Historical Collection.
